A Royal Flush

Hugh and I rented "Casino Royale" this weekend.

Yuck.

Besides the lame story line and gratuitous product placement, (MI-6 uses Sony Vaio's?), I thought Daniel Craig was a terrible Bond. I understand this was a prequel and telling us how Bond becomes 007 but seriously where is the charm? Daniel Craig as Bond is rude, abrupt, provincial, and he mumbles. Plus his face is too craggy to be a prequel to Pierce Brosnan's and Sean Connery's lovely looking, smooth, suave, man-of-the-world portrayals.

Admittedly I am not a Bond expert. I had actually never seen a Bond movie until Pierce hit the scene as 007 and since then, thanks to Hugh's influence in my life, I have now seen a few with Sean and maybe even one with Roger Moore. (Is he the guy who only did one Bond movie? I
always forget.) However I still maintain that Daniel Craig does not deserve the 007 designation.

Agree? Disagree?

  1. Sorry friend...

We rented it and really liked it!

Calvin thinks it was the best bond film yet...and I am not really a bond 'fan' persay but I thought he had a hot bod and the action was worth the 5 bucks we put out to rent it....

  2. I liked him as Bond but I didn't like the script. The mumbling and product placement I thought was quite charming..... No I hated it too.

I thought Daniel Craig was eerily like Sean Connery.

But he cried, which is TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE from a Bond.

  3. No George Lazenby was the one who only did one movie.

Timothy Dalton did two, in the midto late 80's

  4. I loved it. But I really love James Bond movies to start with. I have been watching them for as long as I can remember. I think I've seen them all. I thought he did well as pre-suave Bond that's what I'm calling him. He totally suits that aspect but If he goes on I think it will be hard to see him as the charismatic Bond like Sean Connery, who is my fav. But over all I thouht he was great.

  5. I personally don't like bond films at all, I haven't watched any for years. Darrin did go to the theater and watched it. He claims to think it was the best Bond film yet. He really liked the different feel in it from the others. So yeah...that's what he thought and
    I haven't seen it so I can't comment!

  8. I think Daniel Craig is a great choice in depicting me... er I mean Bond.
Paul - I don't know how you can say that Bond Crying was unacceptable... was that in the 'chair scene'?

  9. Hi Heather!
I loved it! I have previously seen only 1.2 Bond movies and hated both of them. The amount of STD's this ridiculous character would have in reality is brutal. I despised him for that.

The ".2" movie that I saw was where he was in some asian prison, malnourished, beaten repeatedly, and then one day just up and escapes, jumps on a tank with the ENTIRE ARMY around him and takes them ALL OUT, WHILE HE WAS HANDCUFFED. I'm sorry, but that was a cartoon with real actors. Give me a flipping break.

I had already made up my mind to not watch Casino Royale.

A friend convinced me to see it and I loved it. Finally a Bond movie where he doesn't sleep with millions of girls, doesn't do Superman-type things, and he actually really does LOVE the heroine. I gave it a thumbs up.

How are you? How's the fam?

  10. oh bother! Danny Craigster is freaking hot. Plus he's dark in this film and I don't mean his complextion, I mean he's a nasty killing machine! Ha, finally some blood in a bond film. The other films are super cheese, no one crying, no one struggling with their inner demons! Well I might be a little over the top with the demons but no way, he's the best bond yet! Brosnin can go back to his lamesauce Mrs Doubtfire, and his Crown Affair.

    Later!! Darrin

  11. From Hugh:

What I liked about this Bond was the fact that he was a true action hero: strong, muscular, fast. Jaime I agree the chase scene at the beginning was amazing. It made me excited for the rest of the film. That was his best moment should have saved it for the end. The other Bond's weren't as convincing as an action hero like Craig is. But here is where I struggle, he has no charm. Bond's number 1 asset as a 00 agent is his charm -Craig showed none.

And his mumbling drove me crazy -hey take the marbles out of your mouth.

I will say this though, I think it was just a lame Sony production -product placement, as Paul said, is something you just don't do in a Bond movie. Maybe with a better director and producer, we will get the type of movie that is worthy of a typical James Bond movie.

Heather likes Daniel Craig's a**. (I meant "accent" you perverts.)

  13. Heather you forced me to finally watch this damn movie.
Here's my opinion: It's better than the last 3 movies. But not as good as golden eye.

  14. DJ I was wondering why my resident movie buff handn't stopped in with some comments yet. Golden Eye was also my favourite.
